Month of the Wood Snake
May 6 – June 5
The month of the Wood Snake brings us from the season of Wood into the season of Fire, the image of the warm sun growing flowers beautifully embodied by the Sunflower. Of course, these days one cannot see the Sunflower without also thinking of Ukraine, which at this time is still being bombarded and besieged by Russian forces. The energy of this month can bring many resources to Ukraine but it is also forming a Harm relationship with the country so this costly battle will likely continue to rage on throughout the month.
For the rest of the world, this season of fire should bring improvements generally, as Fire is the useful element for the year and much needed for making improvements to our daily lives as we reemerge from the pandemic. That said, there will continue to be under currents of trouble as the Snake energy also forms a Harm relationship to 3 of the 4 pillars of the year’s chart which affects us all. While we may feel energized this month systemic problems persist and we should not become complacent or overly confident as autumn may bring renewed challenges.
Use these warm and sunny days of the three summer months to enjoy the respite but also to prepare for what could be a difficult autumn and winter season. As they say make hay while the sun shines but also save for a rainy day.
The hexagram for this month is #5 Waiting formed by the image of the Water trigram above the Heaven trigram. This hexagram forms the image of a big heavy cloud in the sky, building and building energy but not yet laden enough to rain. This metaphor tells us to have patience in a time when situations are not yet ripe for taking action. In fact it is imperative that we wait until the right time otherwise failure will ensue. While good timing may require us to wait a bit longer we should use the time wisely to prepare and build our own energy as well to ensure we are equal to the task when the time comes.
