Month of the Wood Dragon

April 5 – May 5

The month of the Wood Dragon brings us to the end of the spring season and transitions us to the season of summer.

The image of this pillar is that of  a wise ancient tree atop a mountain. As this pillar is one of the 10 Spiritual Pillars another image for this pillar is a temple on the mountaintop. As this month is a spiritual month in a spiritual year this is an ideal month to focus on and to cultivate our own spiritual practice. It is the higher spiritual vantage point that the Wood Dragon affords that will allow us to gain the insight and perspective we need to navigate these challenging times.

The Dragon represents the mountain and for those with a Dog in their chart this could signal an earthquake as this clashing energy is sure to shake things up. For those with a Dog in the chart be prepared for some changes in the area of your life represented by the Dog. Not sure what’s in your chart? Look it up for free here:

On the global stage, there is a notable figure who may well find this month to be particularly challenging and that is Vladimir Putin whose chart is shown below. First, the month of the Dragon creates a self punishment for Putin meaning that he is more prone to making mistakes and strategic mis-calculations. The impact of the month also increases his irrational thinking and reduces his capacity for good self discipline and self control and we may see him making more aggressive and poorly executed actions. Additionally, his continued brutality might just prove to be his Waterloo as the Dragon month clashes with his day pillar the Dog which can bring changes for him personally and perhaps even physically. It will be very interesting to see if the Opposition hexagram this month brings the situation between Russia and Ukraine to a climax for Putin. However, it is always the human luck actions that ultimately decide the outcome so let us pray that we can steer the course of events to a beneficial outcome for all.

The hexagram for this month is #38 Opposition, fire and water represented by the lake, two parties who do not see eye to eye. This hexagram describes a time of division, conflict, and potentially even combat, much like our world today. This hexagram also reminds us that as the two trigrams that comprise this hexagrams are sisters within a family, and in a broader sense represents us all as we are part of the human family. As such, we must appeal to the angels of our better nature and try to reserve differences and find common ground wherever possible. When opposition arises we are better served by relying on our spiritual guidance rather than our flawed human nature. This month may we use the higher vantage point of the Wood Dragon to see we are all one human family and work together to end opposition and conflict both abroad and at home.
