Month of the Rooster

Double Roosters

Month of the Earth Rooster: Double the Trouble, Double the Fun

Today is the first day of the Rooster Month. A Rooster Month in a Rooster Year brings a doubling of this pure metal energy. In fact, today is also a Rooster day which means the energy is intensified!

Just how this concentrated energy will affect you, as always depends largely on your BaZi or 4 Pillars birth chart, and of course on how you use it.

First the bad news. When we see two Roosters in a BaZi birth chart it represents a self punishment, or some kind of self sabotage. A self punishment means that you are more likely to make a mistake or err in judgment in such a way that it comes back to bite you. Anyone who has a Rooster in their chart should be doubly careful this month of mis-steps, whether it is the usual self destructive habits or simply acting before thinking through the consequences – think before you speak! The good news about self punishments is that this is something you can control so the power to head off potential problems is in your own hands!

Now for the good news. As I said in my annual forecast, the Rooster is a peach blossom or romance star animal in the Chinese Zodiac. For those of you who are single and looking for love this month has a lot of energy to support your quest. If you are already in a relationship this peach blossom energy also presents a great opportunity to bring a bit of romance into your relationship, so be sure to plan a date night. If neither love nor romance interest you, never fear because you can also channel this peach blossom energy to market yourself or make connections.

The I Ching hexagram for this month is #56 called Traveling. The imagery of this hexagram is fire on a mountain top which spreads quickly, essentially this hexagram is about movement. Traveling hexagram tells us that this is a time of forward motion, exploring new vistas and new territory. It is a time of momentum and growth. However, this hexagram also comes with a caution. When one is in unfamiliar territory, like a traveler in a strange land, one must be cautious and prudent as one does not know this new terrain well. The concentrated energy of this month can certainly move you on to new places and new ventures but the margin for error is also high so just go carefully and watch your steps!

TIMING:

Earth Rooster Month September 7 –  October 7

IMPORTANT DATES:

Rabbit People: This is your clash month and also your clash year! Chances are you have taken some hits already and this month you may feel like you are being knocked down. Take it easy, be gentle with yourself and lay low until next month if possible. People with Rabbit in their day pillar should be extra vigilant about their health. Rooster days may be especially tough this month as the clash energy is tripled on these days and they are September 7, 19 and October 1 (still Rooster Month)

I am taking a different approach to dates by giving you the best and worst of the month. Of course because we live in a Space – Time continuum date selection is the key to unlocking the energy potential in your space with Feng Shui. The best results come when you use a date that also ties YOU to your space: Heaven – Man – Earth connect!

*If you have an important event like a wedding, construction start, move in date, or business launch to plan it is best to have a personalized date selection analysis to ensure the best outcome.

INAUSPICIOUS DATE:

September 25, Wood Rabbit or Yi Mao day (Clash to Rooster)

This day not only clashes the month and year but also lacks any good stars to mitigate the negative energy. Avoid any important activities on this day and use caution in general as accidents are more likely.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:

September 15, Wood Snake Day or Yi Si day (Clash to Pig)

A Success Day and Excellent Dong Gong Rating: great for almost any important activity except traveling.

September 29, Earth Goat or Ji Wei day (Clash to Ox)

An Open Day and Auspicious Dong Gong Rating, a great day for open houses and business openings, or beginning a new course of study.

FENG SHUI:

Just as the Rooster energy of the month is doubled with the energy of the year, so too is the flying star energy as the Monthly and Yearly energies in each sector is also doubled up! Therefore, what is good is very very good and what is already bad is horrid.

Worst Sector South: The annual 5 yellow resides in the South sector this year and this month the monthly 5 yellow is also in this sector. Keep this area as quiet as possible and avoid renovations or disturbing the ground in the South sector of your property.

Best Sector East: This sector is a very positive one all year because the current Wealth Star or 8 Star resides here and the monthly 8 star is here this month as well. This is a great sector to spend more time in and if you have a door here use it often to stimulate this positive Qi!

Month of the Earth Monkey and Exciting News!

02/08/2017 | By | 2 Comments

DSC_0757

Did you know that you are more likely to move in a year or a month that clashes your chart?  That’s because clashes bring change are often the catalyst that propels us in a new direction.

This monkey month, which is my clash month, is bringing big changes for me both personally and professionally. I am very excited to announce that I have taken a position as a design associate at an interior design firm in Lenox, MA and am buying an historic home in the beautiful Berkshires! Moving to the country and renovating an antique home have long been dreams of mine and I am so happy to see these wishes fulfilled at this time in my life. One of the perks of my new job is that it will allow me to incorporate Feng Shui into the work our firm does, and to continue my independent Feng Shui and Chinese Metaphysics consulting practice. As my entire office and library are in boxes, I will resume my Chinese Metaphysics work in the month of the Rooster once I am settled.

Whether, like me, you find yourself moving this month or not, change is upon us all now and a new cycle is about to begin! We have been in a period of time dominated by the Fire element, which brings change and transformation, since the Snake year in 2013. This month is a major turning point as this long period of fire is coming to a close and a period dominated by Earth element begins to make its presence known with the start of this month. Chances are if you look back at your life from 2013 until now you will see that is has been a time of personal growth and transformation – it certainly has been for me!

The energy of Earth, which is the dominant element this month, is about stability and security. Yang Earth is strong and steady, like a mountain. Earth is also the element of productivity and nurturing, so we can expect to see less volatility overall and hopefully a kinder, gentler energy around us as we move toward the end of the Fire Rooster year.

The I Ching hexagram for this month is #59 called Dispersing. The imagery of this hexagram is wind over the water and is likened to a persistent and gentle breeze which over time can even melt an iceberg. It is about wearing away hard attitudes or rigidity, and softening one’s heart. Much like a persistent suitor who wins over the heart of his beloved over time, this hexagram tells us to be consistent and gentle when trying to penetrate the hearts and minds of those who may not see eye to eye with us. Be patient, be persistent, be gentle.

Important Dates:
Wood Earth Monkey Month August 7 –  September 7

IMPORTANT DATES:

Tiger People: This is your clash month so use caution in general especially on Monkey days which are  August 13, 25 & September 6 as the clash energy is doubled up on these days.

I am taking a different approach to dates this month by giving you the best and worst of the month. Of course because we live in a Space – Time continuum date selection is the key to unlocking the energy potential in your space with Feng Shui. The best results come when you use a date that also ties YOU to your space: Heaven – Man – Earth connect!

*If you have an important event like a wedding or business launch to plan it is best to have a personalized date selection analysis to ensure the best outcome.
*Don’t know what animals are in your chart or how they may affect you? Contact me for a personalized astrological chart reading!

INAUSPICIOUS DATE:

August 14, Water Rooster or Gui You day (Clash to Rabbit People) A negative star and Remove day, the energy of this day is shifting and unstable and affected by several varieties of Sha or noxious Chi. Do not plan important activities on this day.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:

August 23, Water Horse or Ren Wu day (Clash to Rat People)
A Three Star, Open Day, great for grand openings, open houses, also great for wealth and receiving help from noblemen.

August 29, Earth Rat or Wu Zi day (Clash to Horse People)
A Two Star, Stable Day, a great day to undertake activities which will have long term implications and when you want to have happy and long lasting effects. Great for Marriages, moving house, renovations, signing contracts. Especially beneficial for Rat, Dragon and Monkey people as you combine with the day and the month!

FENG SHUI:

Northeast: This month the negative 5 yellow is visiting this otherwise auspicious sector. If your home faces Southwest and thereby sitting Northeast, you could see issues affecting the household overall. This is a good month to skip renovations in general especially in the NE sector of your home.

East: This sector is a very positive one all year because the current Wealth Star or #8 Star resides here. This month this sector will get a powerful boost from the #9 star bringing happy events and blessings – a great sector for a bedroom and if you have a door here use it often!

Feng Shui was of course used extensively in the selection of my new home in the Berkshires. I look forward to sharing more about that process including tips you can use for your own house hunting later this fall.

Month of the Fire Goat

02/07/2017 | By | No Comments

DSC_0984

This month is a Yin Fire Goat month in a Yin Fire Rooster year.  Yin Fire, called Ding, is man-made fire and the imagery for this element is a candle flame. This month we have multiple candles to light the way. Ding fire is the fire of illumination, inspiration, it is the fire that can forge, transform and set the world ablaze. Ding fire can be a delicate candle in the wind or an out of control forrest fire. As Ding fire is man-made fire, whether or not this flame is useful or destructive is ultimately up to us.

The Goat month is the final month of the summer season, a transitional month in which the first two weeks are fire and the second two become earth.  This month is also a noteworthy time of transition in a larger cycle of fire that began in February 2013 with the year of the water snake. Transition points are often a time of reflection when we take stock of where we have been and look to where we are heading. With 5 years ruled by fire. the element of change and transformation, chances are you have seen a lot of change during this time. Are you where you hoped you would be? Are you looking ahead with excitement or with trepidation? If its the latter this may be a good time to reassess.

The I Ching hexagram for this month is #18 called Remedying and sometime it is also translated as Poison. This hexagram describes a stale and stagnant situation that has gone sour or even poisonous to us. It is like food left at the back of the pantry which has spoiled or even been infiltrated by worms. When we discover rotten food in our refrigerators we know what must be done – we simply throw it out. In our lives however, we make it more complicated than it needs to be and allow toxic situations to continue to fester unchecked. This hexagram tells us that we can no longer keep our heads in the sand about the situations which have become toxic to us, it’s time to look them in the eye and do something about it. The advice of this hexagram is to either remedy and repair the situation if possible and if not, to chuck it out. Allow the fire energy of this month to fuel the changes that need to be made and allow a change for a for the better.

Important Dates:
Wood Fire Goat Month July 7 –  August 6

IMPORTANT DATES:

Ox People: This is your clash month so use caution in general especially on Goat days which are  July 7, 19 & 31, as the clash energy is doubled up on these days.

INAUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally inauspicious for everyone, days to use caution on, and unsuitable for important events or activities.

Month Breaker: These days, which are also Destruction days, are days with unstable energy, days when things just don’t go right or tend to fall apart – hence destruction. Caution is urged especially for Goat people as these are also your personal clash days and they are July 13 & 25.

Year Breaker: Though not generally as volatile as Month breaker days, these are still days to take it easy and to be vigilant, especially Rooster people since these are your personal clash days and they July 15 & 27.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally lucky for everyone, except those who clash with it. These are great days to plan important events or activities.

Success Days: Unfortunately, this month Success days are also the Year Breaker day which renders them inauspicious and not recommended for important activities.

Stable Days: July 11 & 23. Since Success Days are not good days for important activities this month it is best to plan important events that require long term stability and longevity for Stable Days. (Clash to Snake People)

Initiate Days: July 12 & 24. If you are looking to take advantage of the transformative power of the Fire season to begin a new health or exercise regimen, Initiate Days are the perfect days to get started! Rat, Dragon, Monkey and Ox people especially will benefit from the energy of these days (Clash to Horse people).

Remove Days:  July 8, 20 & August 1, three opportunities this month! Whether you want to clean out closets, shed unwanted pounds or shed unwanted people, these are the best days to do so as the results will be better  Monkey, Rat, Dragon and Snake people will benefit the most from these days (Clash to Tiger people).

*If you have an important event like a wedding or business launch to plan it is best to have a personalized date selection analysis to ensure the best outcome.
*Don’t know what animals are in your chart or how they may affect you? Contact me for a personalized astrological chart reading!

FENG SHUI:
This month also brings new monthly energy to each of the 9 sectors of your home and office and here are the highlights.

South: This is the most negative sector for the year and this month the #7 or Robbery Sha Star is visiting. If you have a main door in this sector it is a good idea to make sure the locks and security system are in good working order. Also a good idea to continue to keep the activity in this sector to a minimum.

North:  This sector is a very positive one all year and an area that is particularly supportive to career advancement. This month the North gets a boost from the visiting #8 Star, which is the current wealth star, gives a boost to earning power! It will also help you make the right connections for your business. If you have to be indoors this month this is the best sector to be in.

Month of the Fire Horse

03/06/2017 | By | No Comments

Month of the Fire Horse – Mythical Dragon Horse

The Horse month, which begins on Monday, June 5, is the peak of the summer season. The Horse always brings a lot of fire but this Fire Horse month is as much fire as possible for any month. It certainly won’t be boring.

The horse neither clashes nor combines with the Rooster year but both are peach blossom, or attraction star animals, so this is  a month that will ignite romantic feelings and many will find themselves in the mood for love. If you are single this is a great month to get into the dating scene, and a good time for couples to rekindle the spark that brought them together in the first place.

While fire may bring passion, this intense fire can also bring anger, rage and erratic thinking. Tempers could flare up this month and tensions that have been simmering are likely to boil over. This dynamic will play out both on the world stage as well as closer to home. Luckily, you can have some impact on situations close to you. If things get heated stay calm, keep your cool, communicate and discuss any issues in the early stages before things get out of hand.

The hexagram this month is #28 Great Exceeding. Just as the extreme fire energy this month has reached its zenith, this is a time when things have come to a head; a time when extraordinary situations call for extraordinary measures. The meaning of this hexagram is derived from the imagery of the 6 lines themselves in that they resemble the main, load bearing beam in a house which is sagging under great pressure and about to give way. The roof is about to crash on you and if you standstill you will be crushed – you have no option but to move out of the way!

The advice for this hexagram is pretty direct, a situation around you has become extreme or unstable and you can no longer stand idly by, whether you like it or not you must act now. In high pressure situations, and during times when change is thrust upon us, it is easy to be sad or fearful but Confucious’s advice is that one should not give into fear. Sometimes difficult things are brought into our lives to bring us to something, somewhere or someone better. If you can muster some faith and take action then you will find success.

Important Dates:
Fire Horse Month June 5 – July 6

IMPORTANT DATES:

Rat People: This is your clash month so use caution in general especially on Snake days which are June 12 & 24 as the clash energy is doubled up on these days.

Caution is urged especially for Horse people as these are also your personal clash days and they are June 6 & 18.

Year Breaker: Though not generally as volatile as Month breaker days, these are still days to take it easy and to be vigilant, especially Rooster people since these are your personal clash days and they June 9 & 21.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally lucky for everyone, except those who clash with it. These are great days to plan important events or activities.

Success Days: June 8 & 20 – Success days generally bring good outcomes for all endeavors except for legal activity. Since Success days are Tiger days this month, Tiger, Horse, Dog and Pig people will see the most benefit from these days. (Clash to Monkey people).

Initiate Days: June 5, 17 & 29 – For those looking to begin a new health or exercise regimen, Initiate Days are the perfect days to get started! Pig, Rabbit, Goat and Tiger  Dog, Tiger people especially will benefit from the energy of these days (Clash to Snake people).

Remove Days: June 13 & 25  For those more concerned about shedding a few pounds for the beach or date nights, Remove days are the perfect day to start a new diet because they will support you in shedding those unwanted pounds! Goat, Rabbit, Pig and Horse will benefit the most from these days (Clash to Ox people).

FENG SHUI:
Overall, the volatile energy of the month is seen in each of the 9 sectors of the home as well, no single palace has any outstanding energy, some are better and some worse than others. On the whole my advice is to take advantage of the warm weather and spend as much time outdoors enjoying nature and the long days as possible.

SOUTH: This month the #8 star which is the current wealth star, visits the south which is a pity really because no one should be activating or spending any more time in this sector than is absolutely necessary. Best to forfeit the money energy this month and continue to keep this sector peaceful and quiet.

SOUTHWEST: The month has quite enough peach blossom energy already, but if you really want to activate more then you can use the Southwest sector of your home. This month the #1 star is visiting and creating a peach blossom combination with the annual #7 star. This is also a good sector for those who rely on their silver tongue to earn a living as it gives a boost to showmanship and sales.

SOUTHEAST: The number 3 Star which is a wood element star comes to the southeast feeding the #9 fire star that is there for the year. The boost that this energy gives to this positive sector means it continues to be a great place to activate by spending time in. However, the #3 star can bring arguments and disputes and in a month when tempers are touchy just be prepared to deal with a few disagreements that may ensue.

9 EARTH – SOUTH

Chasing Dragons in Taiwan

10/05/2017 | By | No Comments

My desire to deepen my understanding of the power of the landforms brought me to Taiwan last month to continue my Feng Shui studies with my teacher Joey Yap, and esteemed colleagues from around the world. This particular Feng Shui excursion had a unique focus because we concentrated on the Feng Shui of spiritual locations, of which there are many, in the environs of Taipei, Taiwan. We were chasing Dragons, another name for mountain ranges, to find and experience Meridian Spots and to examine the unique energy of these spiritual places.

IMG_6358

The Yin He Cave Temple and Soul Water pouring down from a sacred waterfall

You see, Feng Shui is not so much about interiors and placement as it is about the Earth and the connection of our dwellings and ourselves to it. Each place on Earth has a unique quality and energy. Feng Shui is really about understanding the energy of a particular location in order to align ourselves with it, to reap the benefits that it can bring to our lives.

Over thousands of years, great masters have collected and handed down their accumulated wisdom in classic texts which contain the principles and formulas that allow us to learn to read and qualify the energy available to us in the landscape. Feng Shui masters of today spend many hours training and studying these classic texts, but there is only so much one can learn in the classroom.

To really understand Feng Shui, it must be experienced first hand by feeling the energy of a location in both body and soul out in the mountains or ‘Dragons’ themselves. There is no substitute for this type of hands on learning.

IMG_6059

My teacher Joey Yap, explaining the rare land formation and Meridian Spot location at the Seven Star Mountain Temple

It was a particularly powerful experience not only because each location was a textbook landform example come to life, but also because most of these sites were also located on an actual Meridian Spot. A true Meridian Spot is a rare and potent concentration of powerful Qi that can only be produced under exceptional and very specific land formation circumstances. These formations are the highest ideal in terms of Feng Shui landforms.

DSC_0863

Another view of the Double Headed Tan Lang Star which gives this pagoda temple its spiritual power.

In most locations we were able to experience the awesome power of a true Meridian Spot for ourselves either by sitting or meditating there to absorb the power of this Qi into our bodies. The simultaneous power, peace and perfect stillness of a Meridian Spot is simply sublime.

Now I know why these spiritual locations are so potent and why ancient sages went up to the mountains to meditate and pray. It is because when one is on an actual Meridian Spot, one can reach a point of stillness and peace almost instantly and receive a much faster connection to source. It’s the difference between dial up and high speed internet – truly remarkable!

IMG_6247

The Table Mountain viewed from the top of the North Dipper Palace, a stunningly beautiful place

Another interesting aspect of these temple locations was that most were dedicated to specific intentions and concerns. Some temples focus on wealth and abundance, some wisdom and knowledge, and some health. The locations of these temples were not only powered by the immense Qi of a Meridian Spot, but also imbued with specific energy provided by the unique land formations surrounding the ‘Spot’. The specific type of Qi, dictated by the surrounding landforms, determined the spiritual focus and intention of each temple.

For example, the temple that was devoted to both physical and emotional healing was supported by a Wu Lou Gourd shaped land formation, and the temple devoted to wealth and prosperity was surrounded by ‘Sunken Head Huge Door’ land formations which are for Heavenly Wealth – wealth greater than an emperor’s.

DSC_0710

The highlight of the trip was certainly our last location, the Yin He Cave, a cave temple high up in the mountain where one must enter into the mountain itself to tap the Qi of the meridian spot there. It was a rare land formation that one does not encounter often. We climbed many, many stairs to reach two small cave rooms, and walked behind a magical waterfall of Soul Water, to reach the alter. The energy of that location was very moving, I could feel my heart open and we all felt the buzz of the energy throughout our bodies.

The experience was powerful for me not only in terms of honing my skills and knowledge of Feng Shui but also for me personally and spiritually. It has changed the way I look at the world both literally and figuratively, and I look forward to sharing this deeper understanding with my clients and incorporating it into future Feng Shui projects!

Month of the Wood Snake

03/05/2017 | By | No Comments

il_570xN.975984756_aaj9
Month of the Wood Snake

Friday, May 5, marks the start of the Wood Snake month, and the beginning of the summer season. The Wood Snake brings the fire season and wood to fuel this fire. The energy of this month combined with the energy of the year means that fire will be quite strong this summer.

So what does Fire bring besides heat?  Well first of all fire is joy, optimism, hope, exuberance, desire, and passion, which are all generally good things. Fire means that people will generally feel good, consumer confidence will be up, people will likely spend money on entertainment and eating out. This is the energy that creates summer romances and summer blockbuster movies.

However, fire is also rage, anger, and hot tempers. The volatile clash between fire and metal this year will be accentuated by this season which could bring violence and greater threats of military action this summer; simmering tensions may boil over.

Without the water of communication and diplomacy, cooler heads may not be able to prevail to keep tensions under control. However, since the Snake and Rooster are part of a 3 harmony combination, there is a chance that back channel connections could intervene to keep a lid on things for the month. This applies to both the world stage as well as issues closer to home.  If tensions seem to be getting out of control in your life, seek the help of a trusted ally to keep things from going off the rails this month.

The hexagram for this month is #5 Waiting. The imagery of this hexagram is Water over Heaven, essentially Heavy Cloud, No Rain. This hexagram describes a time when accumulated effort and preparation are still in the process of ripening and not yet ready to bear fruit. It is easy during this time to feel discouraged and wonder if and when the payoff for all of your efforts will come. It is easy during this time to be worried or discouraged, but you should not confuse a not yet with a no. Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude during this time of testing and waiting. If you keep working and stay focused on your goal, success and good fortune will come to you in the fullness of time.

Important Dates:
Wood Snake Month May 5 – June 4

IMPORTANT DATES:

Pig People: This is your clash month so use caution in general especially on Snake days which are May 6, 18 & 30 as the clash energy is doubled up on these days.

Caution is urged especially for Snake people as these are also your personal clash days and they are May 12 & 24.

Year Breaker: Though not generally as volatile as Month breaker days, these are still days to take it easy and to be vigilant, especially Rooster people since these are your personal clash days and they May 16 & 28.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally lucky for everyone, except those who clash with it. These are great days to plan important events or activities.

Success Days: May 14 & 26 – Success days generally bring good outcomes for all endeavors except for legal activity. Since Success days are Ox days this month, Ox, Snake, Rooster, and Rat people will see the most benefit from these days. (Clash to Goat people).

Initiate Days: May 11, 23 and June 4 (still Snake month)  – Fire is all about passion and excitement and you can channel the fire of this season into new ventures and plans. For those looking to begin a new health or exercise regimen, Initiate Days are the perfect days to get started! Dog, Tiger, Horse and Rabbit people especially will benefit from the energy of these days (Clash to Dragon people).

Remove Days:  May 7, 19 & 31, three opportunities this month! For those of you still working on spring cleaning and de-cluttering, these are great days to clean out the closets and donate your unwanted items. For those more concerned about shedding a few pounds before putting on a swim suit, Remove days are the perfect day to start a new diet because they will support you in shedding those unwanted pounds! Horse, Tiger, Dog and Goat people will benefit the most from these days (Clash to Rat people).

South: The #9 which is a fire star, is visiting the South palace this month, which only gives more power to the negative #5 Yellow star that is here for the year making it more volatile. It is best to keep this area of the home as quiet as possible all year, and especially this month. Remember, no renovations or construction here. Try to spend as much time in other areas of your home as possible this month.

Southeast:  While this sector is already the luckiest sector this year, this month, the visiting #4 star forms a harmony connection to the #9 star which is here all year.  The #4 star is both an academic and peach blossom or romance star and with the harmony connection here as well, this is the sector to activate if you are looking to make connections with others – especially the romantic kind! The best way to activate this energy is to spend as much time here as possible, even better if your bed or main door are located in this sector.

North:  The North is a lucky sector all year and even better this month as the auspicious #1 star visits this month making a harmony connection to the #6 star which is here for the year.  If you want to boost your career and make the right connections to get ahead, this is the area to spend more time in. It is also a great sector for those who want to support career related travel.

This month I am so pleased to feature the charming artwork of Chisai Letters. This original watercolor & ink painting titled Serpent, is available, along with many other great Chinese Zodiac themed pieces, through her Etsy store and can be purchased using this link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/249459508/chinese-zodiac-snake-serpent-original

Thinking about buying a home? Have you got the right team of professionals lined up to help you with your search? If a Feng Shui professional is not on your list you should certainly consider seeking this invaluable input before you buy. Just as a good home inspection provides critical information before you sign on the dotted line, a Feng Shui audit can be just as important at this stage of the game.

Too often people call in the help of a Feng Shui professional after a purchase has been made equating it with the interior design process, however, this is often too late to be as effective as it could be. What many people don’t know, is that the best time to use Feng Shui is actually before meeting with an architect, before construction or before you purchase a home or office space.

The misconception that Feng Shui is about design related choices keeps people from reaping the full benefit of this time tested science. Why not make the most of your time and investment by using Feng Shui to help you when it can be most powerful which is at the beginning.

You see, the ancient classic texts and treatises about Feng Shui don’t discuss furniture placement or colors, they are about understanding land forms and how to find locations with the best energy. The potential of a particular location to benefit and support us actually comes from the property and surrounding land formations which accounts for 70% of the Feng Shui of a site. What happens in the interior of a space has less impact so it is important to select a site with good Feng Shui first!

Just like realtors, Feng Shui consultants know its all about location, location, location.

Some sites have features, like T-junctions or irregularities, that are deal-breakers and can’t be “cured” with adjustments which cause challenges for those who live or work there. Working with a Feng Shui consultant as part of your search team can help you eliminate sites with poor energy from your list allowing you to focus your time on beneficial locations that will support you and protect your biggest investment.

It is also important to know that even if a location has good Feng Shui overall, it might not be the right place for you. A qualified Feng Shui professional will also consult your chart to help you choose a home that is good for you personally. Making sure you are in sync with where you live will give a greater boost to your Feng Shui and enhance your life more powerfully.

As they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is so true when it comes to Feng Shui and the home buying process. A Feng Shui audit will pay for itself by eliminating issues in the fist place rather than trying to “cure” them, and will start you off on the right foot. If you in the market for a new place, be sure to bring a Feng Shui consultant with you while house hunting – you will be glad you did!

Month of the Wood Dragon

30/03/2017 | By | No Comments

il_570xN.756269622_q1p2

Wednesday, April 5, is the beginning of the Dragon month, the last month of the spring season. Dragons are what we call landforms in Feng Shui which transmogrify mountains and hills into mystical living beings.  Indeed during this month as the foliage grows, the Earth itself seems to come alive. Not only is the spring the season of wood but the Wood Dragon represents strong, majestic wood like great forests upon a mountain range.

While the energy of last month was a total clash to the year, this month’s energies are a complete coupling with the energy of the year. One does not need to understand 5 element theory to know that wood fuels fire, and what Chinese Metaphysics can tell us is that the Dragon combines with the Rooster in perfect union. As in some human unions, the Dragon however looses its sense of self in this combination and becomes metal like the Rooster. The result of this pairing is simply an intensification of the clashing energies of the Fire and Metal of the year.

So what does this tell us? It tells us that this month could foster pairings, unions, mergers of all kinds but that these could be intense and powerful situations. Caution is urged here as those who play with fire may get burned and it would be wise to make sure these relationships are not all take and no give. Be wary of exciting opportunities that sweep you off your feet as you could loose your balance or sense of self.  The flamboyant Rooster is a charmer, don’t fall for the facade as there may be trouble brewing beneath.

Of course on the flip side of this coin is the likelihood that such an intense boost to the fire and metal elements of the year will bring exciting news with it. I would not be surprised to hear about big technological innovation or collaborative efforts producing outstanding achievements, especially in Fire and Metal industries, like high tech, aerospace or even in the world of high tech entertainment.  It is also likely to be a big month for mergers and acquisitions as well.

The hexagram for this month is #38 Opposition. The imagery of this hexagram is fire over lake. Fire and Water are opposites, equal in intensity and volatility – very much like the Fire and Metal elements of this year. Fire and Lake trigrams also represents two sisters who in this case disagree and don’t see eye to eye. While Fire and Water are opposites they are also complimentary as their qualities are useful to one another and balance each other out.  After all, you can’t boil water without fire! Therefore, the advice of this hexagram is to try to find common ground and ways to work together despite opposing views. Focus on how seemingly unrelated skills and talents can harmonize to accomplish goals and create new things. Opposites in this case should attract!

Year Breaker: Though not generally as volatile as Month breaker days, these are still days to use caution, especially Rooster people since these are your personal clash days and they are April 10, 22 and May 4.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally lucky for everyone, except those who clash with it. These are great days to plan important events or activities.

Success Days: April 7, 19 & May 1 – Success days this month are Rate days. Success days generally bring good outcomes for all endeavors except for legal activity.  Since both the Rat and Dragon are 2 of the Nobleman stars for this year they have an extra dose of good luck this month. Ox, Monkey and Dragon people will see the most benefit from these days (Clash to Horse people).

Remove Days: March 10, 22 & April 3  – Spring is also about spring cleaning! So if you are looking for a good clean-out and clear-out day these are the best as you will have an easier time of letting go, and things you try to loose won’t return (Clash to Pig people).

FENG SHUI:
This month also brings new monthly energy to each of the 9 sectors and here are the highlights.

East: The wealth star is her for the year but this month th energy here means that you may find yourself spending more.  Since it is the #4 star that is here you may find yourself spending more on romantic dates or education and training you just have to decide which is a better investment if you are feeling a little cash strapped.

Southeast:  While this sector is generally one of the best this year, this month the #5 yellow is visiting which can mean some difficulties and obstacles. These problems may seem to pop up out of nowhere but they are only temporary so keep calm, keep this sector calm and carry on.

Northeast, Northwest and West and Center: While none of the energy is really stellar in any one sector this month, these sectors all have a He Tu combination of energy which is about relationships. Gua 5, 6, 7 and 8 people (click here to find out your Gua number) especially will find themselves dealing with the theme of relationships this month.

Your Ming Gua Number

07/03/2017 | By | One Comment

The Ming Gua or Life Star number is the simplest and most basic Feng Shui astrology system. The qualities of the star you were born under, based upon your gender and year of birth, influences some of your basic personality traits and is with you for life. It is an invaluable tool for Feng Shui professionals as it helps us to understand the impact of a space upon you in particular and how best to orient you in your space for maximum support and benefit.

If you don’t know your Ming Gua # here is a fun and easy way to find out:

  • Take the last 2 digits of your year of birth, for example if you were born in 1984 use 8 & 4, and add them together, 8 + 4 = 12
  • If you get a double digit number, add them together as well, for example 12, 1 +2 = 3
  • For those born before the year 2000:  If you are female, add 5 to that number, 5 + 3 = 8, This number 8 is your Ming Gua number. If you are male, Subtract that number from ten, 10- 3 = 7, This number 7 your Ming Gua number.
  • For those born after the year 2000: If you are female, add 6 to that number, 6 + 3 = 9, number 9 is your Ming Gua number. If you are male, Subtract that number from 9, 9- 3 = 6, number 6 is your Ming Gua number.
  • If you get 5 you are special, no really you are, and need to do one more step, 5 Females your Ming Gua number is 8, 5 Males your Ming Gua is 2.

Here are the Ming Gua Numbers:

Gua 1 is called Kan and is Water Element

Gua 2 is called Kun and is Earth Element

Gua 3 is called Zhen and is Wood Element

Gua 4 is called Xun and is Wood Element

Gua 5 is the Center and is Earth Element but adopts the directions of 2 or 8

Gua 6 is called Qian and is Metal Element

Gua 7 is called Dui and is Metal Element

Gua 8 is called Gen and is Earth Element

Gua 9 is called Li and is Fire Element

Be sure to check part II for more information about the importance of your Ming Gua number and how you can use it!

Month of the Water Rabbit

02/03/2017 | By | No Comments

il_570xN.1040600335_hh0d

Sunday, March 5, is the first day of the Water Rabbit month and the beginning of the solar term called “Awakening of Worms”. This is the time when  snow gives way to rain, birds serenade the morning light, and buds begin to swell and bloom. In fact, the imagery of the Yin Water Rabbit is of rain watering small plants and flowers. This is the season of wood, when things begin to grow and expand once more – and spring is here in earnest.

The Rabbit, like the Rooster of the year, is what we call a ‘Peach Blossom’ animal sign which is a romance star.  Rabbits in most cultures are also associated with fertility as well. So, it is possible that many this month will find themselves in the mood for love, especially if the Rabbit or Rooster are personal peach blossom stars, according to one’s astrology chart.

While pastoral spring scenes may look serene, don’t be fooled by the bunnies and Easter eggs, the energy this month is not likely to be quiet. In fact you may come to a new understanding of the term ‘Mad as a March Hare‘ this month.

In Chinese Metaphysics, the East, which is the home of the Rabbit, is represented by the wood element and also by the trigram Thunder.  As the energy of this month is a complete top to bottom clash with the energy of the year, the quality of this month will be less about wood and more about the shocking and arousing Thunder. Thunder, while frightening, is meant to get our attention and spur us to action, so pay attention.

Well suited to this Peach Blossom year-clash month, the hexagram is #54 Marrying Maiden. You would think with a name like that it would be a positive hexagram, however, this hexagram does not portend good outcomes. Marrying Maiden is about things seem good or that start off well but don’t end well. The emphasis and warning here pertains particularly to relationships. This month is a time to take an unflinching look and truthfully examine your relationships. Are they appropriate?  Is there a healthy balance of give and take?  Do they build you up or tear you down? Are you empowered or disempowered by them? If you find that certain relationships are not serving you, then it is time to consider whether or not you should continue them or at least change the dynamic within them. It may be time for some pruning or spring cleaning where people are concerned.

Important Dates:

IMPORTANT DATES:

Rooster People: This is your clash month so use caution in general especially on Rabbit days which are March 5, 17  & 29.  This month your clash days are also the Year Breaker days so slow down and pay attention.

INAUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally inauspicious for everyone, days to use caution on, and unsuitable for important events or activities.

Month Breaker: These are days with unstable energy, days when things just don’t go right. Caution is urged especially for Rabbit people as these are also your personal clash days and they are March 11, 23 and April 4.

Year Breaker: Though not generally as volatile as Month breaker days, these are still days to use caution, especially Rooster people since these are your personal clash days and they are March 5, 17 & 29.

AUSPICIOUS DATES:
These are the days that are generally lucky for everyone, except those who clash with it. These are great days to plan important events or activities.

Success Days: March 13 & 25 – Success days generally bring good outcomes for all endeavors except for legal activity.  This month success days are Pig days which combine with the month giving them an extra boost of good luck.  Tiger, Rabbit and Goat people will see the most benefit from these days (Clash to Snake people).

Initiate Days: March 10, 22 & April 3  – Spring is all about new growth and new beginnings and Initiate days are the best days to use if you want to start off on the right foot so to speak. Snake, Dragon and Rat people especially will benefit from the energy of these days (Clash to Tiger people).

FENG SHUI:
This month also brings new monthly energy to each of the 9 sectors and here are the highlights.

Northeast: Those who wish to capitalize on their peach blossom or romance luck this month would do well to spend more time in the Northeast as the auspicious #1 star is combining favorably with the #4 star in residence in this sector for the year.  The 1-4 combination is also excellent for study or writing so if these are priorities for yourself, or for your children, then this is a great area to make the most of.

East: The East has the #8 wealth star for the year which makes it one of the best sectors generally speaking. This month however the negative #5 yellow is visiting so this would not be a good month to do any wealth activations and it is a good idea to keep this area quiet in general for now, especially East 2 which is the Year-Breaker sector.

I am so pleased to collaborate again this month with a  fellow small business owner, and am thrilled to feature an original watercolor painting called Blue Bunny by artist Alisa Adamsone. This piece is available for sale along with many other lovely paintings on her Etsy store using the link below.  Many thanks Alisa! https://www.etsy.com/listing/400458673/blue-bunny-original-watercolor-painting
