Month of the Fire Rabbit
March 6 – April 5
With the arrival of the Rabbit month we have now reached the mid-point in the spring season in the Chinese Calendar. The two mini-seasons that make up this month are ‘Awakening of Worms’ and ‘Spring Equinox’ as nature begins to awaken from its deep winter sleep.
The imagery of the Fire Rabbit, Yin Fire on Yin Wood, is of burning incense or Joss stick. As the Joss Stick implies, the Fire Rabbit pillar is a spiritual pillar, as Yin Fire is sitting on its own Tai Ji Nobleman Star in the Rabbit. Since the Yin Fire Rabbit pillar is also symbolized by a candle flame, this is a pillar of illumination and also inspiration. New light and life for the spring season, a time of hopeful contemplation and prayers offered for the New Year.
The hexagram for this month is #41 called Decreasing. The imagery of this hexagram is of a Lake at the foot of a Mountain, the water evaporating from the lake and like smoke from a Joss stick, rising to the mountain above. The imagery and the lines of this hexagram tell a story of give an take and sharing of resources. Those who have much sharing with those who have little. This is a good month to offer prayers for what is hoped for in the new year but also of sharing what you have with those in need. Remember the law of yin and yang that one can only be filled when one has emptied oneself, and that in giving we receive.
