Month of the Wood Rat

Month of the Wood Rat:
The Dragon Year Ascends

December 8 – January 5

A solitary tree in the chill of midwinter is the image of the Wood Rat pillar which will bring some important transitions. The first transition that will take place this month is the Winter Solstice where we move from the Yin half of the year into the Yang half of the year as the hours of sunlight once again begin to increase. While there will be more daylight we will still be in the most Yin season of the year so we may not really feel the energetic shift until February at the Coming of Spring. This Yin time of year is good for slowing down, getting more rest, and bringing focus inward.

The other important transition that will take place this month is the ascension of the energy of the coming Wood Dragon year. While we will still technically be in the Water Rabbit year these energies will really loosen their grip and recede while the energy of the coming year begins to infiltrate our experiences before taking hold completely on February 4. This will be welcome news for anyone who had an interesting year with the Rooster in their chart and a cause for vigilance and awareness in the year ahead for those who have the Dog in their chart.

The only constant is change and the change agent energy will begin to focus its impact in a new direction starting now. Want to know if you have a Dog in your chart? Look it up here: https://bethgracefengshui.com/bazi-chinese-astrology/astrology-charts/

Change isn’t necessarily a bad thing, in fact it might be the most welcome thing if you are feeling stuck or unhappy. Even if all is right in your world its always a good idea to keep things fresh and to be open to growth. A great way to roll with the transitions in this month is to spend the remainder of the Water Rabbit year envisioning what you want for the coming year and begin to tie up any loose ends that might hold you back from making progress in the new year.

The I Ching hexagram of this month #2 Earth also offers advice for how to best utilize the energy of this time of transition. This hexagram is comprised purely of Yin lines and also called Responding. The quality of Yin is to recede and receive or respond to events rather than to take initiative. This receding quality signals a time to pull back, to go within, and to respond as needed rather than trying move forward at this time. Like a seed waiting quietly within the Earth for the right time to sprout and push upward, this is a time when it is best to be still and quietly go inward. This is an ideal month for more meditation, quiet contemplation and to listen more than speak. The Yin quality of this month is ideal for pausing and listening to our lives before we begin to embark on plans for the year ahead. This is a time to reflect on our experiences and lessons learned over the last year so we can move forward when the time is right with more clarity and confidence. This is your universal permission to slow down this month and make time for stillness, there will be plenty of time for doing soon so savor this quiet season.

For those who wish to receive more insight about the year ahead this is also a great time to schedule a one-on-one session to anticipate what the Dragon Year has in store and make a plan for success in the coming year.
