It’s October, and the month of the Wood Dog will begin on Tuesday, October 8.
The imagery of the Wood Dog pillar is of a tough, tenacious tree growing on top of a rocky mountain or in an arid desert environment. In order to grow and thrive in such such conditions this tree must be strong and perseverant in order to set down the deep roots necessary to grow despite the lack of rain in the desert or in spite of the wind at the top of the mountain.
While the hexagram for this month is 39 Obstruction, the hexagram that this pillar also embodies is #53 or Gradual Progress, our hexagram for last month, which is also the image of a tree growing on a rocky mountain side. The story told by both hexagrams together is that when one encounters an obstruction one should not give up but be tenacious and keep working to find a solution. As we say in yoga you must root to rise. This month is a call to develop deep roots within your being, develop strong personal character and fortitude. The best way to grow deep roots is to do something little each day toward self cultivation and development, many small persistent actions can build a strong foundation.
The Dog is also one of the four Earth element animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Earth element animals often carry wealth and resources, just how that plays out for you depends on your chart. Those who areWood ElementDay Master people, or those with a Rabbit, Tiger or Horse in their chart will likely benefit more from this Month’s Dog energy. If however, you have a Dragon, Goat or Ox in your chart, this month could bring you some challenges and opposition so be careful in your dealings with others. Get it in writing, and bring a third party to your meetings to make sure there is a buffer and someone who can offer you support – a friend with your Nobleman star in their chart is ideal!
