Month of the Fire Pig

November 7 – December 6

I write today, the day after the U.S. election, a day and month with energy which favored Trump, but in a year whose energy favors Biden creating uncertainty which seems par for the course this year. We may have to wait until the end of this month which ends on Friday or even beyond to find out definitively which energy will prevail and to know who will be president for the next 4 years.

Regardless of who wins, one thing is clear, winter is here.

The Fire Pig month, which begins on Saturday, ushers in the season of winter, the season of water. Water represents darkness, danger and uncertainty, we head into uncharted territory this month on dangerous waters.

The global pandemic is still a world wide threat and the economic fall out of this global crisis has yet to fully impact us. In the midst of uncertain times what we do know for certain that there are dark days ahead of us yet. December in particular will be a month to be reckoned with and we need to prepare our minds and hearts to weather the storm.

I say all of this not to foster doom and gloom but as a simple reality check, this year isn’t over yet and the Rat has more in store for us.

The imagery for this month’s Fire Pig pillar is that of a lighthouse, a beacon of light and hope shining to guide those in the darkness on dangerous waters. This month we are all on dangerous waters and we must look for signs of light and hope and more importantly we must also be that light for others. Now more than ever we must use our skills and tools to help us transcend the challenges of our times and to lift others up.

The hexagram for this month is #16 called Delight or Enthusiasm. The imagery of this hexagram is of thunder echoing across the Earth, thunder represents power and energy spreading out over the land. There is great eagerness and enthusiasm as well as energy needed to propel forward momentum. While on the surface this hexagram seems to indicate an auspicious time it also comes with a warning not to become complacent or self satisfied. Delight can lead to misfortune when it goes to our heads so it is extremely important to keep a sober mind and take measured steps forward. We can give thanks for our good fortune at this time while being mindful of those less fortunate and proceed with humility. Indeed, no matter the outcome of the election we will need to reach out to those who may disagree with us and work together to build a better 2021 which is fast approaching.
