The Ming Gua or Life Star number is the simplest and most basic Feng Shui astrology system. The qualities of the star you were born under, based upon your gender and year of birth, influences some of your basic personality traits and is with you for life. It is an invaluable tool for Feng Shui professionals as it helps us to understand the impact of a space upon you in particular and how best to orient you in your space for maximum support and benefit.
If you don’t know your Ming Gua # here is a fun and easy way to find out:
- Take the last 2 digits of your year of birth, for example if you were born in 1984 use 8 & 4, and add them together, 8 + 4 = 12
- If you get a double digit number, add them together as well, for example 12, 1 +2 = 3
- For those born before the year 2000: If you are female, add 5 to that number, 5 + 3 = 8, This number 8 is your Ming Gua number. If you are male, Subtract that number from ten, 10- 3 = 7, This number 7 your Ming Gua number.
- For those born after the year 2000: If you are female, add 6 to that number, 6 + 3 = 9, number 9 is your Ming Gua number. If you are male, Subtract that number from 9, 9- 3 = 6, number 6 is your Ming Gua number.
- If you get 5 you are special, no really you are, and need to do one more step, 5 Females your Ming Gua number is 8, 5 Males your Ming Gua is 2.
Here are the Ming Gua Numbers:
Gua 1 is called Kan and is Water Element
Gua 2 is called Kun and is Earth Element
Gua 3 is called Zhen and is Wood Element
Gua 4 is called Xun and is Wood Element
Gua 5 is the Center and is Earth Element but adopts the directions of 2 or 8
Gua 6 is called Qian and is Metal Element
Gua 7 is called Dui and is Metal Element
Gua 8 is called Gen and is Earth Element
Gua 9 is called Li and is Fire Element
