The Water Rooster month brings us to the middle of the autumn season, celebrated in Asia during the Mid-Autumn festival by hanging colorful lanterns, eating moon cakes, and generally celebrating the beauty of the autumn full moon with loved ones. Indeed this month of the Autumn Equinox may offer a lovely reprieve between the clash months of August and October.
The Water Rooster pillar in particular carries themes of poetic love stories both rapturous and tragic, sentimental relationships, merrymaking, entertainment, and artistry. It is a pillar of wistful remembrance, melancholic nostalgia, regret, and longing. The shadow aspect of this pillar is unhealthy attachments, hanging on to pain and sadness of the past, and the antidote to this tendency is letting go and looking forward. If all else fails, you can always turn those haunting memories into poetry.
As this pillar is also associated with a bottle of spirits another shadow aspect of this pillar can look like drowning powerful emotions in a bottle, or over indulgence as a coping mechanism in general, so caution is advised this month. This could be another powerfully emotional month which may feel like a continuation of the previous months internal tumult. Be sure to reach out for help when needed, and beware the temptation to overindulge in food or drink as a means to manage powerful emotions.
The Rooster is a ‘Peach Blossom‘ month so certainly romance is in the air especially for those whose Day Pillar contains Monkey, Rat or Dragon as this is your personal attraction energy month. Those who are single have more opportunity to attract romantic opportunity and those already coupled up could use this month’s energy to bring more romance into an existing relationship. ‘Peach Blossom‘ energy is not just romantic however, it is also really useful for those who wish to gain notice or recognition for their talents and work related projects. Those Monkey, Rat or Dragon day pillar folks whose main goal is to further their career goals would do well to use the energy of this month for networking, and boosting visibility via social media, marketing, and advertising. As Period 9 fire is associated with the eyes, being visible and attracting attention is key for growing one’s brand and business now more than ever, and this month can certainly give a boost in that department as well.
The I Ching hexagram of this month is #53 called Gradual Progress. This hexagram is formed by the wood trigram above the mountain trigram, giving us the image of a tree growing on a mountain. The advice of this hexagram is to emulate the steady and determined growth of a tree, its roots reaching little by little ever deeper into the rocky mountainside. Its wisdom teaches us that lasting, sustainable growth is not achieved overnight and that success comes as a result of steady and gradual progress toward a goal. The yoga metaphor for Gradual Progress is the proverbial saying ‘root to rise’ which is to say that in order to grow and progress, a steady and firm foundation is needed. Real substance takes time to build, don’t rush greatness, instead work your way to your dreams one deliberate step at a time. This month, plan your course of action by mapping your strategy with gradual action steps and you will be well on your way!
