September: Fire Rooster Month

“There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it.” ~Simon Sinek

The month of the Rooster brings us to a major milestone in our annual journey around the sun as this is the month of the autumn equinox, celebrated in China as the Mid Autumn festival with moon cakes and lanterns, and in the Celtic tradition as one of 8 fire festivals that are the spokes in the wheel of the year.

Not only does this month offer a turning point in our annual journey around the sun, it also marks the beginning of our transition to the year of the Fire Goat which is quickly approaching. This month, the energy of the coming year will begin to infiltrate our experience giving hints and cues about what we might encounter when the Fire Goat arrives. Pay attention this month to your experiences to see what is revealed so that you might anticipate the shifts and opportunities that are on their way to you.

The image of this pillar is not that of a barnyard cockerel, but of the Phoenix bird rising from the ashes in all of its fiery, mythical glory. Of all sixty pillars in the BaZi or 4 Pillars system, the Fire Rooster pillar is exceptional in many ways and these qualities might be just what you wish to harness in the coming weeks. This pillar is a scholarly pillar whose energy could inspire you to focus on intellectual pursuits or to study a subject of interest to you. Another special aspect of the Fire Rooster is that it is a spiritual pillar whose energy supports spiritual cultivation. You may wish to lean into and focus on your spiritual connection and practice this month, especially if your Day Master element is either Yin or Yang Fire.  Not sure what your Day Master element is? Look it up here.

Perhaps you interests or intentions are less concerned with study or spirit but instead with connection in which case you are also in luck! As one of the four Peach Blossom zodiac signs, this month is particularly good for attracting attention; to grow your visibility, to attract new clients or customers, or even to attract romantic opportunity.  Folks who have the greatest boost from this energy of attraction are those whose day pillar contains the Monkey, Rat or Dragon which you can look up here. The key to working with this energy is visibility so be sure to put yourself out there and shine!

The hexagram for this month #31 called Influence, further reinforces the emphasis on attracting attention and notice this month. This hexagram is comprised of the Lake trigram representing the youngest daughter above and the Mountain trigram which represents the youngest son. In this hexagram the young man is showing deference to his young female paramour in a time of courtship as this hexagram is often called Wooing as well. The advice of this hexagram is to court the favor or attention those we seek to influence not by being ostentatious or boastful, but in deference to another. If you wish to  influence others this month for any purpose, it is always best to do so authentically, with humility, and in a manner that lifts others up.

“Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.” ~ Albert Schweitzer
