Month of the Water Rooster
September 8 – October 7
It’s a hard rain gonna fall…
The imagery of the Water Rooster pillar is of autumn rain. Like last month, the water this month is strengthened by the water of the year and emboldened by the metal of the season which means this rain could be intense!
As I type, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever on record is taking aim at the Eastern United States and globally we are very likely to see more of these strong storms this month. In the Chinese system water represents darkness, danger and difficulty. This particular Water Rooster month could bring formidable obstacles and challenges both globally and personally. The key to overcoming any challenges this month brings is by changing your mindset, by looking for opportunities in each moment of adversity. Instead of being overwhelmed by the enormity of the challenge try chipping away at the issue in small pieces gradually.
On a brighter note, the Water Rooster’s energy is very favorable for effective communication and connection with others. If you find yourself at an impasse or facing interpersonal challenges the key to overcoming these obstacles will lie in good communication and dialogue. This is not a month to clam up, make time to meet with others and say what’s in your heart.
This month’s hexagram is #53 called both Gradual Progress. The imagery of this hexagram is of wood above mountain, like a tree growing on top of a mountain, seemingly defying all odds. The only way for a tree to grow into such tough, harsh conditions is to gradually penetrate the rock of the mountain with its roots. The advice of this hexagram is to become like the tree, setting down a firm rooted foundation and growing gradually little by little. When challenges and obstacles come our way or we feel that we are not making fast enough progress, we are to remember that the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step – the key is persistence. This month take one deliberate, mindful step at a time and you will reach your destination.
The Rooster is one of the 4 ‘Peach Blossom‘ or Attraction Star animals of the Chinese Zodiac. If it happens to be your personal Peach Blossom star animal you may find your self attracting more attention this month. It’s a great boost for those who are looking to build their brand or following, its also very helpful if you are interviewing as you certainly want a potential employer to like you. For those who are single, Peach Blossom energy can make you more attractive to potential partners so be sure to get out there and be more social this month. Open the door to the powerful Chinese Metaphysical system called 五 术 Wu Shu or The Five Arts. We will learn about the foundational theories of Yin & Yang and the Five Elements, and how they weave together this interconnected system.
