Month of the Metal Goat
July 7 – August 7
The month of the Metal Goat begins on Sunday, July 7 with the two week ‘season’ called Lesser Heat followed by the two week season called Greater Heat. As the mini seasons describe, this last month of the Summer Season will be about heat and fire. It also marks an energetic turning point in the year as the fire ends this month giving birth to Earth and Metal.
How the end of fire for this year affects you personally depends on what is in your BaZi or 4 Pillars Chart and whether or not fire is useful to you. For some fire lights up their world for others the cooling off that comes with Autumn is most welcome.
In a broad and global sense, fire gives happiness, positive feelings, and optimism. After this month we may see a cooling off of financial markets and a lack of consumer confidence which could make people nervous. Just remember, this is just an emotional reaction to a change in energy. Stay calm and have a solid financial plan that is based on facts and not sentiment.
This month’s hexagram is #6 called Contention or Litigation. The imagery of this hexagram is Heaven over Water. While these two trigrams may seem to paint a lovely scene of they sky over the water, things are not as they seem. The nature of Heaven is to move upward and the nature of Water is to move downward – two trigrams moving in opposite directions. This imagery describes a situation where to people are of opposite minds, who move away from one another, who don’t communicate and don’t cooperate. The reason this hexagram is sometimes translated as Litigation is because when a two people don’t see eye to eye the situation can escalate, leading to a bigger battle. It is a fact of life that people will have differing view points and will have disagreements from time to time. The message of this hexagram is that it is better not to let disagreements happen in the first place but if you find yourself in a contentious situation proceed with caution, be sincere and truthful. Seek a wise third party to mediate if necessary before going to court as it were. The imagery of the two trigrams moving away from one another reminds us that sometimes when misunderstandings arise, simply giving space to one another to cool off is a good idea.
The Goat is also Nobleman star for those who are Yang Wood, Yang Earth,and Yang Metal Day people – roughly 30% of the population.
