Month of the Earth Rat

December 7 – January 4

We are nearing the light at then of the tunnel namely the Metal Ox year but we are not there just yet and must remain vigilant, especially this month. That light is also a Covid vaccine which will become available for the first time but the pandemic will still have a significant toll on us this month, especially here in the United States, so we should not be complacent.

The imagery of the Earth Rat is of a Mountain shrouded in mist and fog, or a snowstorm on a high mountain peak. This pillar depicts a time when our path ahead is not clearly visible, a time of uncertainty and confusion when one must tread carefully.

The Rat month brings an intensification of the energy of this challenging Rat year which we will feel bearing down with renewed vigor before finally moving on.
For those with a Horse in their chart the Rat brings change and this will likely be the month when those changes are fully set into motion. The Rat – Horse clash can also bring sudden changes as well so expect the unexpected.

In addition to an intensification of energy, which is also mirrored in the Feng Shui Flying Stars this month, the Earth Rat will bring powerful celestial events as well.

The first celestial event to take particular note of is the solar eclipse of Monday, December 14, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Outdoor exposure to the eclipse is considered inauspicious and brings negative side effects so plan to be indoors during that time.

The other celestial event is the Grand Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn which will take place between December 16 until the Winter Solstice on December 21. This rare conjunction not seen since July of 1623 will be a catalyst for social and economic changes. In the short term we can expect more restrictions on movement as well as negative impacts on the global economy. This darkest month of the year will feel very dark indeed but we must not give into fear and instead bide our time and prepare for better days ahead.

The hexagram for this month is #3 called Beginning or sometimes Difficulty at the Beginning. The imagery for this hexagram is of a tiny sprout being watered by a spring thunder shower. The sprout is vulnerable and growing in the midst of potentially damaging and harsh conditions. This sprout represents new growth and new opportunities in their infancy, a time when great care must be taken to protect these new conditions in order for them to grow and prosper. This hexagram gives us hope and optimism but also a warning to use caution and be on guard against challenges which may threaten to derail our progress. In other words we should be cautiously optimistic this month and keep working toward success.
