Month of the Earth Goat
July 7 – August 7
The month of the Goat brings us to the conclusion of the summer season but just as the season is winding down, the heat strengthens. The name of the two week solar terms that make up this month are called ‘Lesser Heat’ and ‘Greater Heat’ In short don’t let the Earthiness of this month’s pillar fool you – the fire is still quite strong.
The Earth Goat pillar is a ‘Six Elegance’ pillar which brings a certain panache and flash. This is an interesting pillar which is particularly adept at connecting. That said, those who have this pillar in their chart, like a certain former president, may find that interesting isn’t necessarily fun and could come with a side helping of challenge. This pillar however is a talented one and could just be wily enough to escape unscathed.
The Goat is one of the four ‘Graveyard’ zodiac signs known in Western astrology as the cardinal signs. This quality brings a sense of quietude and solitude, a less social energy which makes this month ideal for carving out some time to simply be with oneself in contemplation. While it may be a busy month of summer holidays and travel be sure to carve out some quiet time for yourself.

The hexagram this month #46 Rising, is a particularly good one. The image of this hexagram is of Wood below Earth like a small plant pushing its way upward through the soil to reach the sunlight. This hexagram speaks of perseverance, and strength as we grow and expand. Most importantly, it speaks of the success that comes through hard work and determination and offers advice on how to rise to greatness. The ancient text says that the wise person achieves something great by adapting to conditions and accumulating a series of small victories which eventually lead to the top. Overnight success is fools errand so this month focus on achievable goals and conquer them knowing that each step will help you to grow and will bring you substantial and lasting achievements.
