Month of the Water Horse
June 6 – July 5
The Water Horse evokes images of warm water lapping on sandy beaches in the light of the summer sun. This is the landscape of summer at its best and most restorative. The days are longer now and the fire of the season has us feeling quite happy and optimistic. However, while we may be feeling more upbeat and relaxed this month we should not become too complacent as the summer solstice is the climax that turns the tide toward the yin half of the year. This is also a month when we may begin to feel the influences of the upcoming Horse year making themselves known. Do pay attention to what shows up for you this month as it may be a harbinger of what’s to come.
The inviting scenery depicted by the Horse month is good for more than lazy beach days as the Fire and Water elements of this month are life giving energies which can bring progress and momentum for those who want to make strides.
The Water Horse is a dark horse, and figures in legends of the Each-Uisge or Water Horse, and the Kelpies of Celtic mythology. These beautiful enticing creatures enchant humans to ride on their backs before shapeshifting and dragging the beguiled rider to their peril in the watery depths. A bit dramatic to be sure, but good to keep in mind especially as we are in Period 9 where looks can be deceiving and things are not always what they appear to be on the outside. The old adage if it looks too good to be true it probably is one of the shadow aspects of Period 9. If you probe more deeply you are likely to find it is all looks and no substance. This is particularly important to keep in mind as we all navigate the rapidly shifting tides of this new age and the infusion of AI into our world. Changes are happening quite rapidly now, and when presented with an opportunity take care not to get swept up in the rush of excitement. Do your due diligence, look under the hood, and read the fine print before jumping on the back of what appears to be a dashing steed!
With so much generative energy to carry you forward this month, the I Ching hexagram also offers advice about how to proceed. The hexagram for this month is #57 called Wind. This hexagram is comprised of the Wind trigram above Wind Trigram, wind doubled. This isn’t the wind of a hurricane but a gentle persistent wind. The ancient commentaries say that wind that constantly blows in the same direction will eventually reach its aim. That is to say that if our energies are scattered or if we get distracted we may not get to where we are going. This hexagram advises that consistent and persistent action is necessary to reach a goal. This is not a time of rapid advancement but of a steady and unrelenting motion forward so stay focused this month!
The approach of Chinese Metaphysics is essentially to locate the prevailing energetic winds and to tack with them rather than ride against them. This is what going with the flow really means. If you already have a Horse or two in your chart, not jumping on the back of the proverbial Kelpie is particularly good advice to heed as you may be prone to self sabotage or self-inflicted mistakes this month! Impulsivity is not your friend so slow down.
If your Day Pillar zodiac sign is Snake, Rooster or Ox, you have Peach Blossom luck this month which could bring both romantic and networking opportunities as your power of attraction and charisma is higher than usual. Those with a Pig in their chart can also make some key connections behind the scenes, just take care not to get involved in a dangerous liaison, especially if your Day Pillar is a Pig.
The Horse month brings help and support if your Day Master element is Xin or Yin Metal as long as you have the courage to ask for what you need. Those with a Goat in their chart are also gaining synergy and supportive energy this month, so whatever area of your life the Goat governs put your energy there.
Those who have a Rabbit in their chart may find that this month offers a dramatic way to get rid of what isn’t working and to clean house to make space for something new. To the outside world this may look sudden or impulsive, but deep down you have known what hasn’t been working for a while. Rabbits, this is an ideal month to take decisive action as next month’s energy can help you begin to rebuild. Those with the Rat in their chart can really shake things up and make changes now too, just take care with your physical body as you are a bit more accident prone.
If you don’t have Peach Blossom luck from your birth chart this month don’t worry because you can also harness this relationship building energy with Feng Shui. You see, Feng Shui is not about aesthetics, it’s about ENERGY. This month there is a powerful energetic alignment that can help you boost your visibility and strengthen your connections with others that is particularly strong in the Southeast. There is similarly supportive relationship building energy in the Northwest sector, and to a lesser extent the West sector as well. The best way to harness this energy is to figure out where those zones are in your space, based on the magnetic compass orientations, and spend as much time there as possible – especially doing work or making calls.
