The Dragon month brings us to the end of the Spring season and the completion of the first quarter of the Chinese solar year. This is the month where we transition from the season of wood which is associated with growth, expansion and learning to the element of fire which brings visibility, change and transformation.
The first quarter of this fiery year has already brought many revelations as the light of fire illuminates, as well as a great deal of upheaval as our world is undergoing major changes. This coming month brings Water element which is nonexistent in this year’s chart which could give a bit of a reprieve and a window of relative calm with which to make progress. Take time this month to resource yourself and make any preparations that would help you feel supported to meet the remainder of this volatile Fire Horse year.
The imagery of the Water Dragon pillar is of a mighty river atop a mountain, portraying the image of a powerful waterfall. To observe a waterfall brings a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty and power of water, just sitting near one can be invigorating. To contemplate the journey of the water can be inspiring as well. The water in the river has no idea what lies ahead it is simply river water but it must take an incredible leap to become the waterfall where the full expression of its beauty and might can be seen and felt.
We too have many waterfall moments in life, times in our journey down the river of life that invite us to take a leap of faith or to rise to meet an extraordinary moment. These edges can certainly test us but they can also reveal to us our own power and strength, showing us that we like the waterfall have more power than we know. If the river of life is bringing you to the edge of your own waterfall moments, what do you need to take that leap? This is an ideal month to find out and make those preparations.
The Water Dragon pillar is also in a special category of the 60 Pillars as it is one of four Chief General pillars. This quality brings a sovereign autonomy and the willpower to take the lead and steer the course of events. This energy can be harnessed to fully embrace one’s personal power and determination to step up to the mantle of leadership and not take no for an answer. This is just the sort of determination and courage needed to take any leap of faith.
The I Ching hexagram for this month #26 also provides great insight about how to meet the energy of this month. The Mountain trigram above the Heaven trigram creates the image of a mighty mountain rising in the expanse of an open sky. As both mountains and the sky are big and powerful features in the landscape, the ancient texts speak of making a big temple offering rather than a small one. In other words, bring an Ox not a chicken. The advice in modern parlance is to go big or go home. This is a month where fully showing up and giving it your all are required. This is not a time to play small or to do things in half measures. Set your sights on a goal worthy of your heart and soul and do whatever is required to make it happen. If not now, then when?
