Month of the Metal Dragon
April 5 – May 5
With the arrival of the Dragon month we embrace the final weeks of the spring season and transition to the summer season. The fire element is strengthening now as day light and warmth grow and are felt both physically as well as metaphysically. Of the twelve zodiac signs, the Dragon uniquely holds the creative power of transformation. On the heels of March’s eclipse season, this month will certainly continue to offer more of the existential changes that this Wood Snake year has to offer but the tide may turn in new directions.
The Metal Dragon pillar which describes the thematic energy for this month is a special ‘Fei Kong’ pillar symbolic of power, authority, and righteous leadership. The Yang Metal of this pillar is like a sword of truth and justice, defending the rights of others and fighting to protect and serve the realm. As the Dragon is in fact the sign of Libra, this month may bring a greater level of balance, fairness and order to the course of rapid changes we are seeing around the world and particularly in the United States.
The Metal Dragon pillar embodies both the sword and scales of Justice, so the Law and our relationship to it will be a major theme of the events of this month. On a collective level we may continue to see changes enacted through the law, those who wish to bend the law to their personal ambitions, and also a reigning in of illegality. The Libran energy this month could bend the arc of the Law toward greater fairness in favor of the collective good despite being tested by the influence of Uranus which seeks to demolish the status quo and established order.
On a personal level, this month could bring legal issues if they are already on the horizon, but it is more likely that the Metal Dragon will offer an invitation to examine themes of balance and fairness within your own life in a general way. The sword of the Metal Dragon is like Excalibur, a blade of radical honesty and absolute truth. It takes courage to wield that sword and apply that sense of authority to one’s own life. While we may not have the power to control the events in the greater world, we can embrace our sovereignty and become the righteous leader in our own lives and communities. This is a month to step into your personal power and to take responsibility for the things which are within your locus of control. This month offers you a great opportunity to do some spring cleaning in your life, cut away those things that don’t serve and align yourself and your life with greater personal balance.
The I Ching hexagram of this month is as potent at the Metal Dragon pillar it is associated with as Hexagram #11 called ‘Unity’ is also a Sovereign Gua and a powerfully auspicious one as well. In this hexagram we have the Earth trigram and the Heaven trigram, Female and Male energies coming into union and wholeness. A perfect balance of Yin and Yang. Like the qualities of the Metal Dragon, this hexagram encourages balance and union between the Yin and Yang aspects within ourselves and our lives. As the Earth and Heaven trigrams represents the mystical marriage of male and female energies this can literally depict the union of two souls in matrimony and deep human connection. It also speaks of Unity on a collective level. This month presents an energetic opportunity for people to come together, to work toward justice by coming together for the collective good. The Unity hexagram is the antidote to division and a promoter of peace. Unity begins with the self and provided you are able to gain personal equilibrium first, this is an ideal time to connect with others, and to prioritize collaboration and collective power over individualism.
This month may you step into your power and wield it with all of the confidence of the Metal Dragon!
