April 4 – May 4
The month of the Dragon brings us to the end of the spring season and prepares us for the arrival of the summer season and the element of fire which is much needed energetically in this Metal Ox year. It is the arrival of fire in fact which will allow us to turn the tide on the pandemic and make progress in controlling the spread of the disease. Fire is the element of hope and optimism, it is also the element associated with restaurants and entertainment – industries hard hit by the lockdowns which may begin to benefit as we turn the corner from spring to summer.
The Water Dragon pillar is a powerful pillar and one of the Chief Generals, a no nonsense, take charge pillar. It is a pillar of dignified and noble leadership. Yang Water is meant to bring momentum and move things along. The energy of this month encourages us to take charge of our lives and put things into motion. The world is about to be reborn and we must be ready to meet it.
The hexagram for this month is #26 called Great Accumulation. The imagery of this hexagram is Mountain over Heaven and image of the heavens amongst the great mountain peaks. The meaning of this lofty hexagram is not so much about accumulating wealth or possessions but accumulating personal power as a result of cultivating one’s virtue. This hexagram tells us that the way to greatness is through daily and continual work and by accumulating a series of seemingly small actions which build great strength of character. It will be those with noble qualities like the Chief General Water Dragon pillar that lead the way into a new and better reality on the other side of the global pandemic. May we all embody those virtues.
