Month of the Metal Snake
May 6 – June 5
In every year there is a month whose zodiac sign is the same zodiac sign as as the year bringing an intensification of that sign’s energy. On May 6 we will arrive at the multiplication of Snake energy. Of course many would say haven’t we had a great deal of intensity already?! While we have been certainly living through extraordinary times since Period 9 began in earnest in 2024, this month offers a magnification of the Snake’s power that invites us all to transformation both on the personal and collective level.
The zodiac sign of the Snake is a personification of the sign of Virgo so some of the changes on offer this month have to do with using one’s mind and logic to improve skills and to establish more orderly ways of doing things. This zodiac’s energy can be quite useful in brining order to chaos whether applied to organizing one’s closet, or in bringing logic and order to geopolitics or global trade.
It must be said that as a catalyst for growth this zodiac sign is not just concerned with the practical mundane world but with matters of spirit as well. This Snake month can bring greater opportunities for spiritual evolution and the raising of consciousness as well which can also be applied to both the personal and collective. It will be interesting to see what transformations take place at the Vatican in particular given the timing as the conclave which is set to begin on May 7 just as the month of the Snake gets underway!
The Yin metal element energy of this month places a greater focus and awareness not only one its Venusian themes of beauty and attraction, but more importantly on the value of rare and precious metals. Yin metal as a personification of Venus brings a focus on currency and trade front and center and many of the changes that take place this month will likely affect the every shifting price of precious metals and the financial markets as well.
Snakes are associated in many cultures throughout the world with health and healing and as this month is a Snake month in a Snake year it is important to consider the symbolism of two snakes as opposed to one. One of the most ancient and universal symbols is that of the Caduceus, two snakes entwined like a double helix to represent medicine and healing. The most important opportunity that this month’s double snake theme offers us is healing. We have much more power to transform than we know and this is a very potent month to focus on healing for yourself, for your community, and for the world. As snakes live close to the Earth, a great deal of healing can also be gained through our connection with nature and the balm it offers. As we now commence the summer season of fire element this is an ideal month to connect with nature as a salve for any wound.
One reason to be optimistic about the potential for positive changes this month is that the Hexagram associated with the Metal Snake pillar is #14 called Great Reward or Possession in Great Measure. This powerfully benevolent hexagram is comprised of the Fire trigram over the Heaven Trigram giving an image of the radiant sun shining in an open sky, not unlike the Sun card of the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Both the Metal Snake pillar and this Hexagram represent the pinnacle of success, reaching great heights, and reaping great rewards. My teacher Joey Yap’s translation of the ancient text says ” Just like the sun exposes both good and evil, people must work to combat the evil present in the world and promote and encourage the good. Only by doing this can one obey the benevolent will of the universal power that desires only good, and not evil.” This is a month to really embrace healing and transformation as it can bring you to new heights and great success. Don’t be afraid to ride the wave of change it just might bring you to your own great rewards!
